Perfect Your Love In Me, A Poem

Perfect Your Love In Me, A Poem

On one particularly difficult day of mothering in 2018, the Holy Spirit reminded me that nothing else matters like love matters. As wonderful as systems, routines, consistency, rhythm, and family devotions, etc. are, they cannot even come close in comparison to the power of Jesus’s Calvary love flowing IN and through me. The simple, pure love of God will iron out a lot of life’s wrinkles- that is the strong impression I received as I read the following verse:

“So we have come to know and to BELIEVE the love that God has for us.
God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in Him.
By this is love perfected with us, so that we may have confidence for the day of judgment, because as He is so also are we in this world.”
1 John 4:16-17

That day, I penned the following poem:

Perfect Your love in me, O God
as I abide in You
Teach me secrets of Your love
so full of grace and truth

As I am now, my weak love
is tarnished with self-thought
Either I resent, or boast,
But selfless, pure love, I have not

You gave of Your greatest joy
A priceless gift none could repay
You are an endless well of love
You’re fullest as You give away

O, hide me in Your glorious heart
Make me a bit like You
Until new channels open up,
Calvary Love flowing through
